DOUBLE PLATINUM
Many of today's cars use DENSO platinum Long Life spark plugs. DENSO pioneered the use of platinum in spark plug manufacturing. To maximize the longevity and enhance the durability of the spark plug, DENSO applied platinum to both the centre and ground electrodes. Platinum's superior resistance to erosion and corrosion enables DENSO to create a spark plug capable of consistent, extended operation in excess of 100,000 kilometres.
IRIDIUM
For the future, the iridium Long Life spark plugs will become more popular. The patented DENSO Iridium-Rhodium alloy is 6x harder and 8x stronger than platinum. The thin Iridium is made of an alloy with a very high melting point. Therefore, ordinary resistance welding cannot be used because the Iridium alloy does not melt enough and adequate weld strength cannot be guaranteed. The DENSO patented 360° Laser Welding process employs a high-energy laser so reliable that the electrode resists wear in the worst conditions. As leader in iridium technology, DENSO supplies iridium sparkplugs as original equipment to among others: Daihatsu, Ford, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Rotax, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota
