DENSO makes a range of multi electrode spark plugs to fit popular vehicles that are originally equipped with multi electrode spark plugs.Often people think that multi electrode plugs also have multiple sparks, but this is not true. Some spark plugs have 2, 3 or 4 electrodes. This does not mean that there are four sparks. At every ignition there is only one spark. The spark always strikes the nerest electrode. Then this electrode wears and the spark goes to the other electrode. From our experience and testing we know tha multi electrode spark plugs require more voltage to make a spark and do not run as smooth as normal small diameter single electrode spark plugs. This is also because the 3 or 4 electrodes block the beginning flamefront and flow around the spark area.The secret t improved ignition performance is mainly a thin centre electrode. |
