New Company and Testing Facilities to be Constructed on Daian Plant Premises

KARIYA (Japan) DENSO Corporation today announced it will establish DENSO Powertrain Technologies Corporation, a new company on the premises of its Daian Plant located in Inabe, Mie prefecture, Japan. The new company and test facility, including a short proving ground, will validate and calibrate powertrain control systems for vehicles and engines. DENSO Powertrain Technologies Corporation represents an initial investment of approximately 9 billion yen (approximately US$91.5 million) and is scheduled to begin operations in October 2010.

“With the establishment of this new company, we will enhance our capabilities of accommodating powertrain control systems for vehicles and engines, as well as help meet the car manufacturers increasing needs,” said Masahiko Miyaki, managing officer responsible for DENSO’s Powertrain Control Systems Business Group. “We also aim to strengthen our product development for powertrain control systems by utilizing the technical know-how gained from these operations.”

Originally conducted at DENSO’s global headquarters, the new company’s validation and calibration operations will include driving tests of vehicles and engines to determine the optimal control conditions, such as control amount and timing of powertrain control systems to help achieve better fuel consumption, lower emissions and better driving performances.
